v.day

Happy (late) Valentine's Day!

1. My wonderful husband sent me a sweet, sentimental card, tucked in a beautiful bouquet of flowers to my work.  As much as I absolutely love getting flowers sent to me at work, I dread having to take them home.  Lets just say that past experiences have not been so great (aka a soaked back seat).  Therefore, this year I came up with the genius idea of strapping them in the front seat to avoid any tipping/spilling.  It worked out briefly, but I wouldn't say they looked nearly as gorgeous when they arrived at home.  Nevertheless, I loved them.

2. Part of my v.day present-- a Karma necklace.  Truth be told, I slept it in last night, woke up with rashes on either side of my neck this morning, and will be returning it to the company and purchasing another Karma necklace from a store I have bought things from before-- stores where I know I'm not allergic to the metal.  I'm not a brat, I just want a necklace I can wear all the time without fear of repercussions.

3. My valentines.  These are the loves of my life; my family.  Seven v.day's with one and two with the other.

Time to finish watching Moneyball with hubs...(I was getting too OCD about not having updated my blog in awhile, so I had to fit this in before I fit myself into the nook on my husband's left side that God made just for me).

morning commute.

Here's a sneak peak into my car rides in the morning and afternoon, Monday-Friday.

Fortunately, hubs and I are lucky enough to be able to drop Fenway off at my parent's house in the morning where she gets to socialize with our old dog (I can save that story for another post) and of course get nothing but love and affection from Smalls (my grandma) instead of being cooped up in a lonely house all day.

Usually she lays in the back seat (if she's not chewing on an item I've forgotten to take out) and sleeps with both paws stuck forward; however, I caught her at a moment when she was posing for the possibility of a photo op, which I'm always looking for.

I love our car rides together.  Some mornings she'll climb up to the front seat and curl underneath the dashboard, while other times she sits like a human in the passenger seat and looks out the window while enjoying the warmth from the heated seat (don't worry, I put it on low).

Even though my car ride of about 60 minutes can suck sometimes (if I'm running late and/or on the drive home when I hit traffic), I do love that quiet time I get in the car to myself.  Usually I talk to hubs for the majority of the car ride to work, and at least once on the way home, but other than that I listen to music and just think.  I think that time alone is underrated  and more people should take a moment just to themselves.  You'll be surprised to see what you find.

super bowl

Thanks to my beautiful students, I have spent the weekend in and out of consciousness between my bed and the couch (and of course grading research papers).  And the fact that it's Super Bowl Sunday doesn't change a thing.  Hub's best guy friend came over to join the fun since he, too, is sick.  This is my view of the game in a nutshell...

a few glasses of Relax wine, loved ones, and my always loyal Fenway who is tired out from today's run.  Minus a sore throat, hot flashes and a cough, life is good.

impromptu saturday

Even though I'm not feeling at my best this weekend, I had been looking forward to going to Lucketts all week, especially since they were having their Groundhog Day Sale.

So when my alarm went off at 8 (to catch the event starting at 10) the hubs let me sleep until 10 in bed and again until 1030 on the couch before I got up, got ready, and we headed out.

There were a few gems we picked up at Lucketts, but it wasn't until we stopped to eat lunch that things got interesting. After two glasses of wine and some great food (thank you, Blue Ridge Grill) we spotted a Sunglasses Hut on the way home. Laughing our way into the store, we looked around, both picked up a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer glasses we've been coveting and made our way to the check out line.

With bag in hand, hand in hand, we ran through the rain and into the safety of our car.

Why is it that unplanned days turn out to be the best?
