plaid on plaid

After church we went out to eat for brunch.  I don't know why, but I thought it was the funniest thing how my two boys looked next to each other. Plaid on plaid? Come on.
Yes, the picture of Declyn and I is blurry but I will take what I can get.
It may not look it, but top right he is talking non-stop to Mike... the sounds and noises that come out of his mouth these days are quite entertaining (for everyone involved).

And of course I go for the selfie. Not great for either of us.

This little one was getting in some tummy time in the dining room while Mike and I were doing some things in the kitchen.  I heard, "Babe, come look at him" and this is what I found.
When we put him down he was on his back, smack in the middle... what we soon found later was him on his belly, legs and butt underneath our china cabinet. Lord help me when he starts to crawl.

the leaves are turning

The beautiful fall weather we've been having has given Declyn and I the chance to hang outside on the deck more without sweating profusely and/or only being able to stay out for 5 minutes.

Left: talking to Cali (in between laughing at her, which I wasn't able to catch on my camera)
Bottom Right: tummy time is strictly superman or kicking his legs so fast that I'm surprised he doesn't have rug burn on his belly from the mat.
Top Right: starring at me like I'm crazy. typical.

These two old hags also love this crisp weather.

rascal flatts

It has been awhile since I've gone to a country concert, so I was more then happy when we purchased tickets to Rascal Flatts and made a day out of it with some of Mike's co-workers.

Love this boy.

It's not often we get pictures of just the two of us, so we took every opportunity we could to make it happen.
Group shot right after we saw two under age groups of teenagers get cited, taken to call their parents and told to dump all of their alcohol out (not in that order, obviously) - but before I ice'd the boys.

Taking it like champs.
(lie. 3/4 had to sip it because it was too cold and carbonated. Clearly Mike is used to this and had it gone in .3 seconds - no joke... I don't know how that man can chug beers like he does. It's like a magic act the way they disappear).

Favorite part of the night? Coming out of the woman's bathroom to Mike holding a strawberry daiquiri in a guitar-shaped neon plastic bottle for me.  Icing on the cake? He also had one for himself.  He really does know the way to my heart.

chunky monkey

I am really good about running 5 days out of the week (fresh air for Dec, exercise for me) and 9.9 times out of 10 I take this little guy with me.  My favorite is when we run early enough that he's still in his pajamas.  I think it's his favorite, too.

Super chunks.

I don't know how our ladies know, but whenever he goes down for a nap one (if not both) of our dogs are always in the room, usually settling in for a little siesta themselves.

horses need love, too

We spent the afternoon at FryPan Park and walked away with some cute photos of our adventure.

Kudos to my mom for snapping this moment.  Declyn was obsessed with the horse and cute enough, the horse was reciprocating his love and kept coming closer and closer.

The older he gets the harder it is to get him to look at the camera ... isn't it supposed to be the opposite?

We stopped for a rest under some shade while James was 'driving' the tractors.

Loving some Nanny and Declyn time.

Three little pigs all trying to get through one door.

Can you guess who was petrified of the horse and who almost got taken out in the process?
Answer: James & Smalls (in order).

Beautiful day for some animal watching.

Baby Brent was such a trooper.  Don't be tricked by this picture, he's still super tiny (at least compared to Declyn).

five months

What you can't read as one of his five month accomplishments: And I can eat solids like a champ.
After his bath this kid was happy to be clean and ready for some food before bed.

Polo onesie found here.

I didn't position myself properly, so instead of looking at Mike (who had the camera) he was all smiles at me.

It wouldn't be a proper photo shoot without a fist full of fingers.

A little standing up action never did anyone any harm.

At five months we can't live without...

1. our whale bath tub
2. his crib!!  now that he's sleeping through the night we have finally made the transition to his crib!
3. the breathable bumper that goes around his crib to help prevent those little toes from getting stuck.
4. the sheep sleep sound for night time
5. the Sleepy Sounds app for when we're out and about and he can't keep it together.
6. this kid drools constantly so a bib (one of our favorites here) and any sort of teether work miracles -- he seems to really like Soph and this ring he stole from his cousin, Brent.
7. any book to read him before bedtime.  this charmer makes it entertaining for me to listen to.
8. working it out in his jumperoo and an exerciser for upstairs
9. some new toys for him to look at it.  he loves his ball and enjoys grabbing this sassy during car rides.
10. tummy time and sensory development combo - zoo activity gym
11. every one in awhile he sits up in his Bumbo, but his thighs get stuck exiting.
12. a baby monitor to watch him sleep.  we use this monitor, but once our next one comes along we're going to switch to Summer Infant where you can have one screen with two monitors.
13. solids -- we use the Gerber line from Target. He's now up to almost 2 meals a day-- yogurt in the morning and some sort of fruit/veggie in the afternoon. these spoons are great -- they turn white if the food's too hot.
14. pajamas without feet and a nice pair of socks to go with it for bedtime.
15. a highchair for when he eats solids.

celebrate good times

My brother turned 31 and when we got together for a family dinner to celebrate, my mom handed me this new teether for Declyn (a very sweet gesture).  The second she pulled it out of the freezer you can only imagine what went through my mind.
The best part was that I played a game with my dad to see if he'd think/say the same thing (since he isn't 1/10th nearly as vulgar as I am). I held up various objects and asked him to say the first thing that came to mind  -- shirt, pants, phone ... and when I got to the 'teether' he gave me a huge smile and just started laughing.  Although he would never admit it, he has a dirty sense of humor, just like me.

The following night we celebrated our friend Jason's birthday.  Here are a few pictures that captured the moment...
Seeing our friend Matt, this gentle bear, holding Declyn (and Caden) put a smile on everyone's face.

While the dads were downstairs getting rowdy (I mean playing old school quarters, taking shots, and contributing in the swinging of the light fixture over the kitchen table), Kristen and I put our little ones to sleep for a mini slumber party.  Let me take a quick moment to explain their wardrobes:
Declyn - Mike opened his beer and it shot everywhere, including all over Declyn, soaking his shirt and pants.  Before I could put him in another outfit, he was being passed around in his blanket and eventually fell asleep that way.
Caden- Kristen put this outfit on for the party and the little man eventually fell asleep in it.

Saturday morning Mike and I woke up, not realizing it was 8:00 -- clearly Declyn was ready to start his day.  Me, not so much, so I encouraged Mike to try and put him down for a nap in his crib.  Sweet angel, when we looked at the monitor, this is what we saw-- a perfectly content baby with his hands behind his head and his feet in the air, wide awake. He had no problem with the fact that we had put him in his crib; instead he was just waiting for us to come and get him.

Always thinking/processing, even in the car. I can not say enough how much of his dad's son he is.

This was the progression of the night....
(top left) I received a text from Mike while I was downstairs -- "Kristen's rocker is nice. I could fall asleep" ... when I came upstairs a few minutes later, this is what I walked into. What this picture doesn't give justice to is the fact that Declyn's head was really sunk down so low, almost touching the ground (clearly an exaggeration, but you get the point).
(top right) Poor Dec had been waken up so many times, including when he was being put in his car seat, so Mike was trying to soothe him.  Who do you think fell asleep first?
(bottom left) You guessed it.

I absolutely love when he holds my hand (or in this case, finger)... melts my heart.

Getting ready for his second NFL game -- Redskins V. Denver

I can not give enough credit to those ear muffs.  They literally block all the sound out, so much that Declyn has fallen asleep every time we've put them on him at sporting event. And you should see his face when we take them off for a break .. pure shock like wtf, where am I?

Being the amazing parents that we are, we forgot his hat (and sunscreen)  so we made a quick detour to Target on our way to the game.  Mike ran in to get what we needed and came out with this number. I said babe, are you serious with this hat? He claims it was the only infant had they had and when I looked at the tag ... size 18 months.
Side note: Can you believe he's drinking out of a sippy cup?  Us either.

Taking in the last few minutes of the game. My favorite part of this whole situation is the fact that his cheeks are so chubs that the earmuffs smash them together.

Fast asleep in the car ride home.

Now you may be wondering how he went from his Redskin's jersey when we left to an outfit of complete blue (coincidentally Denver's colors).
Well... we had met up with some friends to tailgate before the game and when we were about to walk into the stadium, we noticed he had pooped. I gave Mike a Trader Joe's bag to lay down on the backseat of our friend's car (just in case) and sure enough he had pooped all over his jersey -- up the back, out the sides; you name it, it was covered in poop. I mean he even had it on his sock and behind his ear...seriously??
SO we wiped off as much as we could (and when I say we, I mean Mike) and took him back to our car to put him in a change of clothes / finish washing off the jersey as best we could.
I had him laid out in the back trunk of our SUV with the door open. Literally while I was reaching for a fresh diaper he shot a perfect arch of urine up in the air and onto the bumper/outside/a little inside of the car. Mike and I were hysterically laughing so hard that I swear a little urine of my own may have dropped out. I mean come on.

Jason is obsessed with dressing his son in costume, so for his birthday Mike and I decided to help Caden out and get a little pay back for all of those outfits. It completely backfired. Instead, Jason loved the costume and this was the text I woke up to Sunday morning from Kristen. Jason's considering having it be his Halloween costume, and putting Caden in the Superman costume he already has (no surprise there).

your mama's flying high as a kite

First time on the swing and he loved it!  What I captured on video summed it up nicely - smiles, squeals and lots of time taking in the new view.

"Aunt Kate, come in the house."

Watching a little Baby Einstein during tummy time.

This little chunker is learning to sit up quite nicely.

Rompers found here.

Clearly Declyn knew how the Redskin's game was going to turn out. I, on the other hand, was enjoying some Mommy and me cuddles.

outer banks through pa's eyes

I finally got a hold of these gems from Mike's Dad's camera.

"Excuse me, Dad, what did you just say?  Feed me!"

"Oh yeah, hits the spot."

"Are you seeing what's happening?"

"That's right, Dad, put it right there."

"I see you watching me."

Supermaaaaaan.

Hands down one of my favorite pictures of his eyes thus far.

Sand, son, sunset ... my perfect combo.

Loving on my love.

Jamie and I rocking our wee ones to sleep while getting in some girl time with Barb.

Our attempt at a group photo.
