At 38 weeks the doctor said we could be induced once we hit 39. We decided to wait things out to see if Keegan would come on his own, but at the day before our 40 week appointment, we decided to give them the green light to go ahead and be induced.
I still can not believe that we had a baby born on its actual due date.
We checked into the hospital around 7 AM (after Mike got his Starbucks run, of course) and decided to kill some time with a selfie.
By 8 I was hooked up to my IV, munching on some ice chips (which were pure Heaven in my mouth) and by 9 the epidural was in and we were in business.
I can not even put into words how amazing my induction experience was. Not only did I not feel anything, but my parents were in the room chatting it up until the doctor came in around 12:15, checked me and I was 10 cm dilated. She asked me if I was ready to get this baby out and that it would only take 1-2 pushes.
Eight pushes later, we got to meet our son.
Born at 12:35 PM, he weighed in at 8 lbs and 12 oz, measuring 20.75 inches.
Everyone (including the doctors and nurses) couldn't get over how big he was, and kept asking where I was hiding him during my pregnancy. Maybe it was the drugs, but he didn't look that big to me. I also have no concept of weight, ha.
The first body parts to come out were his head and left arm and the doctor immediately made a comment about how big his hand was, so I knew we were in for a treat.
I am still in shock that an induction was as easy as it was. I told Mike that from now on if our babes are still cooking at 39 weeks, induction it is! Granted they won't all be the same, but I am willing to take that risk after experiencing what I did with Keegan.
The hospital hooked him up with a little bowtie action.
This was one of the first encounters Declyn had with his baby brother, and of course he wanted to label his body parts.
He definitely didn't know what to make of this little person, and was confused as to why we were no longer pointing at my belly when talking about Keegs.
But give him some food and a pair of sunglasses and all is well in the world.
