mother.daughter day

Mom (and not so much) Fen intently watching The Olympics.  You seriously can't be in our house without it on the TV.

Mom is always looking out for her grandchildren-- making sure they're well nourished.

Speechless.

We ended our week how we started it-- margarita's at Seaport Village.

This stunning display was in a window in Gaslamp.  Too bad the store was closed.

Mike's currently training for the Marine Corps Marathon and took Fen with him on his AM run.  She was a little tired afterwards.

sunday fun.day with mama

My first trip to Solana Beach and I wasn't disappointed!

As Mike liked to say, "the breakfast of Olympians."

Taking a break from shopping in Del Mar.  Sometimes it's nice to take in the scenery around you.

You're welcome.

We were waiting for our name to be called at breakfast and this bus went by...

How Mike and I cook.  I find it online (aka Pinterest) and Mike cooks it.  We make a great team.

Too much time without an afternoon cocktail at Flavor.

Just cruising home.

B's photog skills coming to life.  Solana Beach has some pretty cliffs.

Mike spotted this on our walk--
Dixon (family friend's maiden name)
Gordon (what we call Mom)
Cathie (spelled incorrectly, Mom's name)

Too cold to go in the water, but pretty enough to look at from a distance.

more waves, more food

After a day at Ocean Beach, we went to lunch in Little Italy.  It didn't hurt that this place had a happy hour from 3-7 (prime time for when we were there).  Is anyone else seeing a theme here?

Driving to dinner I wanted to capture the moment.

Dinner at SBICCA was AMAZING.  The scallops were to die for and their dessert wasn't too shabby.

Cheers at lunch!

Fenway always finds her daddy when he takes a break from surfing.  Always.  What you can't see in a picture is her mechanical nub going back and forth because she can't contain her excitement.

olympic openings

Mikes obsession has finally begun-- The Olympics!  And in order to celebrate, he took a half day to be with us in Old Town.

Hubs bought this sock monkey for Fen, and then proceeded to hide it around town...

And the man arrived wearing the shirt Mom bought him in honor of the Olympics.  What a good son-in-law.

I thought it'd take things to the next level and make it personal with the Mariachi band.  They were singing "Margaritaville", so I thought it was fitting.  Plus, look at the smile on that man's face.  Says it all.

Words to live by.

Mom and I thought we'd take a moment to imitate James.  When you ask him how strong he is, he puts up both arms, flexes his muscles and has his whole body shake with stiffness.

...and around town.

Of course these two ladies were loving life and live music.

cali wineries

Today my aunt and uncle took Mom and I on a wine crawl to some very pretty places.

Second stop: Bel Vino.  The woman gave us the coupon and a pair of scissors, and said, "you do the work, I'll give you the discount."  The great thing was she lost track of how many servings she had given us (it was supposed to be 6) and kept refilling those glasses.

Two good friends enjoying each others company.

Beautiful fields in the background at our first stop.

Third stop: Wilson Creek. This was definitely my favorite spot (probably because we ate here as well). And it had an adorable story to go with it-- a son called his parents and asked if they wanted to open a winery.  They went to go see the property and the owners backed out, not wanting to sell.  Then the family found this amazing property and the rest is history.

First stop: whites only.

This was technically our third stop, but they didn't serve food, so we left.

Stop numero dos: group picture.

Oh Dad, you're such a cutie.

There was a wedding rehearsal taking place and this is the fancy wagon two little flower girls got to ride in on!

glider point

One word-- gorgeous.  And that's exactly what Glider Point was.

Do we see a theme here?  After meeting Mike for lunch and walking around the shops, we decided to pop into George's for a refresher.

Seal watching at La Jolla.

Hubs met us for lunch at the beautiful Glider Point where we got a fulfilling sub from the little sandwich shop located right next to where people take off. We got there right in time because as we were leaving the line was at least 10 people long and picnic tables were filling up quickly.

This sparked some ideas...more information to come. :)

My drink, on the left, was a less than 120 calorie drink that was scrumptious! Mom tried telling me hers was under 100, but as she said, "people don't' know."  Interesting, mama, interesting.

making the day mellow

Mom got to experience the dog beach of Coronado in full effect.  Aside from the dogs running around, jumping on our towel and licking our faces, Fenway wanted to sit on Mom's lap.  Literally.

Today was National Tequila Day, but of course the restaurant we chose didn't have tequila, so we had to settle for something else.  As Mom pointed out, "it mellows the day."

Our choice of food-- Tent City.  They had delicious wraps and even brought Fenners a bowl of water!

Fenway was guarding her water from all the other dogs roaming the beach.

when one plane departs, another arrives

Today was a bittersweet day.  I drove Kristen to say goodbye, only to...pick Mom up from the same terminal!  (Well, it was supposed to be the same terminal, but Mom panicked and walked out of Southwest's doors. Poor girl).

We did a little food shopping and came across this hotness- recognize the face?  Probably not since he's not wearing double earrings but it is in fact Bruce Jenner-- one of my favorite Kardashians.

How else would we start our day off without a good meal and tasty drink on the water?

Then we ventured over to watch "Frank Sinatra" serenade the crowd.  However, it wouldn't have been as good without this yummy strawberry marg we split.

For those of you who don't know, I am head over heels in love with old people (especially old men!) and I couldn't have been more happy when this cutie walked by, Pino in hand, asking people to dance. I mean it is a Monday afternoon, why wouldn't this be happening?
