coronado beach

Today was our first full day being together as a family in San Diego and it was exhausting / a fabulous day!  I tried to upload the pictures in order, but this is what turned out...oh well!

Mike and Fen walking towards the freezing cold water to cool off.  I know that the water is nothing like our's back on the east coast, but I will tell you this-- when you need to use the restroom, it's actually not that bad.

On our way to lunch I came across this sign that reminded me of one of my students, Flora, which of course made me think about teaching and how much I'm going to miss it this year.  Yes, my mind is like If you give a Mouse a Cookie.

I had to laugh and then immediately send my dad this beer menu.  We both don't like change very much and tend to drink the same thing where ever we go.  His #1 favorite? Twisted Tea.  Mine? Mike's Light Hard Lemonade (but in a close second is anything Smirnoff-- especially Raspberry!)

100% a daddy's girl, Fen couldn't be more happy to spend time with her Daddy. She had the time of her life running after all the dogs on the beach, especially the Great Danes that she couldn't keep away from!

Lessons learned from the beach:
1. bring a chair
2. don't forget the spy

Therefore, right after we ate lunch we drove straight to Target to get all of our items (and more!) from the checklist so we are ready for a year of the beach without dogs running over you, sniffing your face and tracking sand through your towel.

When I ask Mike where Coronado is (yes, I have no sense of direction), he always says, "Over the bridge." So here's us going over the bridge.

After the beach we walked to get something to eat.  Of course we Googled where dog-friendly restaurants were first, but we actually took a recommendation from my brother (thanks, Casey!) about a little gem called McP's and loved it!  There were a few other dogs also on the patio, so it was nice to not be the only one with a dog (which his more typical back home).

On the way back from lunch we stumbled across this tree, which I thought had the neatest trunk.  If you look closely, you can see that the owner put some type of support under it (the black pole) to help it stay in tact.  Absolutely stunning.
